Project Reveal – The European Farmhouse Villa – Living Spaces
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on October 10, 2021
Almost one year to the date since we started working on this gorgeous home, in the midst of the pandemic, our clients moved in! I truly believe beautiful people make beautiful homes….and this one is another outstanding example of that. Arun and Ancy made this one of our most immersive, nuanced and fun projects to work on….from the minute you are at the front door you know you are in a home that embodies its vibrant and warm home owners.
Bringing this home to life was a passion project of sorts, every little detail thought through and a clear vision that helped us navigate this journey without losing focus and at the same time with the signature spontaneity that we yearn to retain in all our designs 🙂
So excited to be sharing with you’ll all about this gorgeous home ….
Vinithra
Light-filled inviting homes, playful doses of colour and expansive floor plans that allow the outdoors and indoors to converse. The imagery that comes to mind is that of a classic European-influenced farmhouse sequestered far from the reaches of urban chaos.

We crossed paths with the sprightly young couple in early 2020. Ancy Lina and Arun Kumar’s personas are a physical representation of the analogy of ‘Yin and yang’ but in the best way possible! While Ancy’s idea of the aesthetic of the home was connected to a vivid vision, Arun’s practical approach towards design allowed us to string together a design narrative that represented the union of a strong design grammar and functionality.
Located in the residential suburbs of eastern Bangalore, The European Farmhouse Villa is a two-floor residence spanning across 4,000 square feet and was conceptualised and executed amidst a flurry of lockdowns. While the home had to pay homage to the overruling design palette, we were particular to pack in function-driven interventions. The design ethos lay in the creation of a rustic European-inspired farmhouse essence that could come alive within the bare shell of the residence.
Transportive in its aura, the design interventions engage the senses to allow the inhabitants to dwell in a hacienda-style abode, laced with focal details like that of cascading chandeliers, stained glass windows, stucco-sheathed walls, and a spectrum of eclectic patterned tiles. With unpredictable timelines hanging in the balance, the challenge was to ensure the home was not over-designed and that we retained that sense of ingrained spontaneity that we celebrate as Designers! The goal at hand was also to create a cohesive identity that flowed uninterruptedly across the home, tying in each room to the overall design matrix.
GROUND FLOOR
The Porch
A fleeting yet impactful rendezvous at first glance, the outdoor porch section acquaints one with the design inspiration of the home in a glance! The stucco-clad walls at the façade level hint at the materiality that one can anticipate indoors. The patterned tiles swathe the flooring, introducing shades of blue, taupe and an oxide red. The statement deep blue main door is reminiscent of classic English country home entrances and has been detailed with brass inlay. The tall glass floor lantern and Victorian wall sconce whimsically grace the nook while framing the calligraphic signage.

Foyer
The petit foyer dons a rooted feel and has been reimagined as a minimalistic interpretation of a mudroom that is characteristic of farmhouse dwellings. Washed in umber and taupe tones, a cantilevered wood bench floats against a panelled segment of the wall. A series of wall hooks double up on the function of a classic coat rack, while earthy rattan makes a debut in the form of the woven round area rug and the flush-mount ceiling light which casts beautiful shadows.

Living Room
Flushed with light and colossal in its scale, the double-height living area occupies the heart of the blueprint and is bathed in traditional farmhouse undertones. The stucco-finished wall introduces a sense of texture and warmth into the space, creating a neutral canvas against which restrained hues assume centre stage.

The lofty volume of the space is punctuated by a quartet of stained-glass windows that filter light into the space in strobes of tinted illumination. A trio of black metal chandeliers by The Purple Turtles waft into the double-height space, crowning the conversation area below.

A set of two chesterfield sofas by Chesters in soft olive green are paired with tan loungers framed in sleek black metal silhouettes. A pared-down white marble top coffee table sits atop the artisanal traditional-motif neutral rug by Jaipur Rugs. A dark-stained console with vintage brass handles poses fittingly against the stucco walls and has been peppered with a landscape art print that fills the space with an old-world charm.

Family Lounge
A serene spot perched by the threshold that unfolds into the lush backyard, the family lounge has been conceived as a delightful space meant for the clients to unwind or to entertain loved ones in, capitalising upon its adjacency to the outdoors.

A deep-seated taupe sectional sofa and a Belgian sloping armchair in French blue cum ottoman grace this space while mustard and wood tones layer the area. Deep navy curtains introduce a welcome accent of colour into the lounge.

The alfresco deck boasts textured patterned flooring, wooden ceiling beams and a cocoon swing to enjoy downtime outdoors.

An array of arches lines the backdrop of the family lounge wherein the former narrower arch has been fashioned to frame a built-in collage of open wood shelves and dark-stained cabinetry below, creating a charming vignette in the space formerly meant to be a puja in the builder plan. The second massive sweeping arch leads into the kitchen and dining areas, with views of the sizeable picture window in the background.

Kitchen & Dining
A true-blue ode to the classic farmhouse-style dwellings, the open-plan kitchen and dining are the nucleus of familial buzz — a space that hosts morning cuppas brewing by the coffee station and dinner conversations by the banquet dining nook! The former wall housed an access door to the ancillary sections of the home which was sealed to create a sizeable wood-framed picture window that peeks into the collage of greens outdoors.

The U-shaped kitchen engulfs the dining area as an organic part of its layout. True to the vision harboured for the space from the get-go, the kitchen is a concoction of classic countryside elements meshed with all the bells and whistles of a modern and functionally adept one!

A classic palette of deep teal-hued cabinetry, brass hardware, and ubiquitous usage of white marble dot the canvas of the kitchen. The golden rule of the ‘kitchen triangle’ was kept alive in the layout, creating distinct zones to optimise function. The pièce de résistance becomes the white apron sink that rests below the crisp black-frame windows lined by bronze gooseneck wall sconces. The handsome marble douses the countertop surfaces and traverses the backsplashes to finally culminate as sleek open shelves.

An eat-in kitchen was always on the cards for the clients as they visualised cooking while indulging in simultaneous conversations across the day. The dining space has been earmarked by a banquet seat under the picture window, a robust oval wood pedestal dining table and a few café chairs that rest under the wooden ceiling beams.

Butler’s Pantry & Beverage Bar
The butler’s pantry flanking the dining area houses a wall-mounted washbasin with under-counter storage. The left side of the pantry hosts a larder, and the right side makes room for additional storage. The hero in this compact space is the ombre-washed tiles that dabble in a spectrum of blues and greens.

A custom coffee and tea bar made for an idyllic addition, creating a dedicated corner for the beverage connoisseurs the clients are at heart. A distressed wood console adds umpteen storage to the nook while the chalkboard introduces a sense of whimsy!

Project Reveal – The California Chic Home
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on October 1, 2021
When interior designers say every project is special it’s true….but some just tug at your heart! This is one such!
Its not always that we come by a project where decisions are effortless, stay true to the original vision and encompass a narrative that’s so close to your personal style! The California Chic is such a nuanced and beautiful home that stays strongly rooted to a vision and a vision that was shared by us and the client from the get go!
And you can see that in every little nook of this home. I’d love to move in….just sayin 😉

Our clients Sowmya and Vinay wanted a home that reflected their style of a clean modern space with a laid-back luxe aesthetic that is definitive of the California design sensibility! We connected on that and more….the result is a home that feels effortlessly cali chic 🙂
The apartment is approximately 3200 square feet and located in a premium community in South Bangalore. Let me walk you through this lovely home!
Entryway
The apartment opens into a small but well-defined foyer area that’s highlighted by a simple waterfall console table clad in oak veneer. Styled with simple earthy elements and a table lamp for lighting it makes for an inviting and cozy entrance.

On the opposite side keeping function in mind, we created a small mudroom painted in a tone of deep sage to complement the raw wood console that offers storage for all entryway essentials for a young family. The mudroom has a small bench seat accented with sharp leather strap hooks.

As you walk in through the entryway you catch a first look at the expansive living and dining area with a long balcony sitting afront.
The open plan living, dining and kitchen form the mainstay of this apartment and beautifully reflect the laidback california chic vibe we wanted to bring to the space.
Living
The living room features a built-in wall of cabinetry draped in a beautiful oak veneer all over and houses the TV as well as offers additional niches for display and books. Layered with the natural warm tones of the oak, we brought in distinct pieces of furniture in tones of ivory, gray and classic tan leather.

The forms remain classic midcentury inspired clean lines and balance beautifully against the pastel toned rug from Jaipur Rugs. A sharp cluster coffee table in black from Blue Loft complements all the soft tones and offers contrast while a simple brass chandelier rounds off the space.

Dining
The dining set right next to the living is punctuated by an oversized art print that brings in a California desert feel with muted earthy tones. Two voluminous ivory pendant lamps sit atop a simple oak finished dining table with upholstered chairs and classic bent wood head chairs. A natural wood and cane credenza adds much needed storage to the dining area.

Kitchen
What completes this open plan living area is the beautiful open kitchen! We brought down the wall dividing the kitchen from the living dining areas and created a large expansive open kitchen that now speaks to the living and dining areas which was perfect for the lady of the house who loved to cook and bake!

We changed out the flooring in the kitchen to herringbone style gray toned wood tiles. The cabinetry is a soft dove gray and the layout is super functional with an island grounding the center.

Custom brass sconces sit against veined marble subway tiles creating a beautiful contrast. The island is accentuated by leather strap bar stools and simple brass and glass globe pendants.
We added a simple groove detailing to the ceiling to mimic the look of shiplap and I love how it draws your eye up!
Balcony
The open balcony adjoining the living space has a beautiful live edge wall mounted bar table on the dining side where one can sit with a drink and take in the views and small lounge seating area on the living room side that feels like an extension of the living room!
Private Spaces
As you walk into the foyer to the right is a small and well-appointed puja space clad in a custom Kolam inspired wallpaper that leads into the guest bedroom.
Guest Bedroom
The guest bedroom is designed to be a simple comfortable space for the clients father. The walls are a pastel tone of sage green accented by a warm walnut tone bed and bedside tables. Botanical prints and wall sconces bring in interest to the space.

On the opposite wall we have a simple wall mounted built in desk and chair that offers a functional spot to sit and work or write.
Walking along the kitchen into the hallway, the apartment opens into the private spaces. We converted the open family room, into a home office for our client.
Home Office
The home office is partitioned off with a custom metal and glass partition and continues the shiplap look ceiling detail from the kitchen. A large L shaped custom desk spans from one end of the room to the other. The desk top is made of black stained pine wood while the bottom shutters show a beautiful fluted front.
The home office has a nook created with an Eames chair replica and an oversized pendant that makes for a perfect spot to sit down with a book and relax!

Kids room
One of my favorite details in the home is the wallpapered ceiling in the kids room. We wanted to bring in a little bit of whimsy without having a pattern overwhelming the space. Adding an oversized floral pattern to the ceiling brought in a sense of scale to the otherwise small room.

The furniture is simple and has a lavender upholstered bed with white cabinetry all over. We created a beautiful long window bench seat with storage on both sides for the little girls toys and books. A small desk sits opposite the bed.

We added a simple yet striking mid century inspired chandelier to the wallpapered ceiling and a rattan pendant to accentuate the window seat.
Primary Bedroom
This easily might be one of my favorite bedrooms we have designed in its simplicity and beauty. The wall behind the bed is wrapped all around in a gorgeous Thibaut grasscloth wallpaper and a classic platform midcentury bed grounds the space. Brass sconces from Boconcept bring in a minimal touch to the space.

A beautiful fluted wood and white dresser flanks the bedroom wall and leads into an all-white walk in closet. The wall opposite the bed houses the TV and a set of beautiful David Drost prints of the Grand Canyon. The bottom section offers a length of concealed storage for the couple.

The walk in closet is a simple but functional space that has a his and hers closet and a large mirror to ground the space. The look is clean with white, wood and gold creating a beautiful yet simple space.

Master Bathroom
We kept the bathroom simple by adding mosaic tiles in a bronze tone, a round brass mirror and simple brass sconces.

Material and Color Palette
One of the key design elements in the home is the use of warm wood tones complemented by blacks and whites. Warm wood peeks through in the walls and the furniture extensively while rest of the elements play a textural role.
The color palette is composed of warm earthy neutrals juxtaposed with sharp contrasts being offered by the use of blacks and whites. The palette is defined by ivory, grays, sage to olive tones and warmth from the wood and leather.
I hope you enjoyed walking through this home….like they say ‘Home is a feeling’ and this one definitely feels like a sunny california day!
Hope to see you’ll back here soon 🙂

Project Reveal – The Charming Cottage Home
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on September 12, 2021
Welcome to a walkthrough of this cozy, charming and compact home we worked on last year. The apartment located in Central Bangalore is home to a young couple from Coorg and they bring with them the sense of charm, character and uniqueness this home beautifully embodies.

Karuna a corporate professional and Saj who works on the beautiful coffee plantations of Coorg approached us last year to create a simple yet charming home on a budget for their first owned home together.
I love that this project allowed us to explore a completely different design approach in combining functionality much needed in small spaces with uniqueness and character that we wanted to bring to the space. The home is characterized by a rustic charm akin to a cottage with modern day functionality!
The color palette comprises of cool blues and greys, distressed whites and warm earthy wood tones. The interplay of rich wood, distressed whites and blues and soft patterns all through creates a quaint cottage feel!
Living / Dining
The home directly opened into the Dining area overlooking the kitchen. The area being small on square footage we did not want to create partitions and wanted to retain an open feel.
Creating an archway into the kitchen was one of our first thoughts here and instantly creates the wow moment from the minute you open the door!

The archway to the kitchen also frames the dining area anchored by a beautiful white table. The round table is expandable to an oval and is such a functional addition in a small space!
The chairs are fashioned in a distressed gray wood tone and upholstered in a patterned floral fabric giving it a rustic whimsical charm.

The distressed turquoise pendant above the dining from Sunshine Boulevard rounds off the space.
Sitting next to the dining is a beautiful wood jaali window that our clients already owned and it brings interest to the large bare wall.

To the left of the dining space is the living room. The living room has a simple layout with a tufted back retro midcentury sofa placed in front of the TV and flanked by bold rust upholstered chairs.
We wanted to bring in bold colors to punch up this small space and the shibori art prints in Indigo along with the rust of the sofa do just that!

On the opposite end we have a cane media unit from Josmo studio that anchors the TV with a floating wood shelf on top. One of the most beautiful pieces here is the wood coffee table our clients already had and I love the character it brings to this small space.

The living room is grounded by a moroccan patterned rug in tones of gray and corals that ties the space together!

Kitchen
We extended the doorway into the kitchen to create an arch and mimicked the arch in the upper cabinets and this is one of my favorite details in this home. I love how it carries the arch detail into the kitchen in a pretty and unexpected way!

We also broke down the half wall separating the kitchen and utility to open out the space and bring in all that natural light from the large corner window and set the sink there. We used the right side of the kitchen to create a laundry area by stacking the washer and dryer and integrating it with the gray cabinetry in the kitchen instantly unifies the space!

The kitchen though small in square footage packs in everything from a double door refrigerator to all built in appliances making it super functional.
The tile was something Karuna fell in love with and bringing in the patterned tile above the cooktop area while keeping the rest of the areas white makes the space feel airy and light!

Primary Bedroom and Bathroom
Bathed in a muted sage and teak wood, this bedroom stemmed out of the feel of coffee plantations…..verdant and earthy!
The two tone sage took some selling to our clients who wanted it all light and bright…..we dived in saying ‘if it doesn’t work, we can always paint over;)’….ofcourse we never did 😉

The corner wardrobe is framed in teak wood with fluted glass inserts and packs in a spacious his and her closet. A full length mirror with a pullout brings in the convenience of a vanity!

You know my love for a seating area in the master and we were blessed with a sweet window niche here that we transformed into a window nook…..such an utterly pretty corner to pick a book and read. Packs in some extra storage below to stow away bed linens!
Function doesn’t come at the price of aesthetic 😉

The bathroom attached to this room was one of the last spaces we completed. We wanted to carry the rustic earthy vibe of the home into this space and the distressed patterned floor tile with the earthy brick tile does this beautifully. Brushed bronze fittings from Kohler are the perfect finishing touch!

Guest bedroom and bathroom
Last but never the least, the guest bedroom in this home is as detailed and thought through as the rest of the spaces. White and wood tones dominate the room with punches of distressed wood tones from the dresser and a grasscloth wallpaper added to the wardrobe shutters.

Simple cane sconce lights frame the art in tones of blues and gray and a quaint floor mirror sits on the opposite corner. The patterned bedding and curtains in tones of white, blue and gray tie the entire space together.

This is such a simple and chic room in how it uses a mix of elements to tie together a space effortlessly!
The bathroom here is kept light and bright with rustic wood tone tiles for the flooring and light greige wall tiles. We used a distressed blue square tile as an accent tile that highlights the vanity area and runs through the entire bathroom incorporating itself in a shower niche.

One of the things that brings in the charm in this home is our clients and their own aesthetic. From the beautiful pieces they owned, to being involved in the finer details and selections and adding to the space through the beautiful photographs in the hallway walls, to the little knobs in the house, I love how they have let their home beautifully reflect their personalities and we feel so good being able to champion that!
I love this sweet charming home….and I hope you’ll do too 🙂
Much love until I see you back here soon!

Project Reveal – The Retro Midcentury Inspired Remodel – Private Spaces
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on August 25, 2021
In this segment we walk you through the beautiful private spaces in this home. The home had a nice layout where the public and private spaces are segregated and as you walk past the kitchen you come to a long hallway that connects the bedrooms.
The long hallway is adorned with vintage Iranian rugs and maps from the clients travels. We created a custom cane insert hallway closet with a niche that houses one of the clients favorite piece of art. The cane is sandwiched between glass to keep it dust free.

Brass pinecone pendants from BoConcept span the length of the hallway and bring in a moment of drama while visually elongating the space!
The walls carry vintage maps collected by our clients and make for a simple and personal gallery wall.

Guest Bedrooms
The guest bedrooms are situated to the right of the hallway. While one is painted all over in a beautiful smoky blue tone and has a mid-century artsy feel, the other guest bedroom is a pastel paradise with a beautiful hand embroidered fabric headboard as the focal point complemented by blush wardrobes and vintage botanical prints.

Adjoining this pastel bedroom is a striking monochromatic bathroom that brings in beautiful contrast to the space as you walk in! We completely remodeled all bathrooms in the home and the palette here is simple black and white tiles accented by a geometric chevron tile and a beautiful black marble countertop.

Primary Bedroom
At the end of the hallway sits the beautiful walk in wardrobe and the primary ensuite! The primary room is one of my favorite spaces in this home. A large king size cane bed sits against a geometric ikat inspired wallpaper in tones of beige and brown. Simple glass pendant lights bring in a modern fresh flair to the Balinese art that our clients owned. I love the eclectic collected feel of this room!

The seating nook on the opposite side has the clients vintage Danish chairs and a vibrant rug against the french doors that open into a wraparound balcony. We added a custom chest of drawers with beautiful detailing and it adds storage and function to the space.

The master bathroom is dressed in dark charcoal anti slip floor tiles and a white and gray faux marble wall tile. The vanity is wrapped in teak veneer to bring warmth to the space and a wall to wall brass framed mirror completes the space.

We added a beautiful white calacatta marble for the countertop and a long shower niche to bring in textural contrast. French gold fixtures from Kohler round off the space.

The design of this home was a beautiful journey in the spontaneous nature of the design process and how each of the spaces in the home evolved. Nothing’s over thought or over designed but feels just right and inviting but at the same time has an elevated presence!
Cant wait to be back here with our next 😉
Until then, Ciao and thanks for dropping by!

Project Reveal – The Retro Midcentury Inspired Remodel – Living Spaces
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on August 16, 2021
I’m back here after so long……I thought I’d struggle with where to start and how to cover the depth and width of this amazing project. All our projects are so dear to me, but the extent of change we see through in some of our projects and those spontaneous design decisions we made that paid off, makes some of them that much more special and this is truly one such project.
Early last year when we kicked off this project, the extent of change we were going for, the beautiful location of the apartment with a breathtaking view of Ulsoor Lake all made it so interesting and challenging compared to what we had done before. Â Our clients had been traveling in India and overseas and after several years of moving were keen on setting up their dream home in Bangalore. As empty nesters this home had to be not just functional and comfortable but also representative of their many years of travels and collected memories.
They wanted their home to accommodate for their art collection, their books, rugs, artefacts and furniture and at the same time bring in a freshness that a first own home would bring with it! We imagined a simple clean but nuanced canvas that could allow their collected pieces to take centerstage while still having a personality!
The home has a very unique look and feel. It has a beautiful retro mid-century aesthetic that’s defined by clean lines, geometry and punches of fun color! We juxtaposed this with the eclectic art, artefact and rug collection the clients already owned to create a striking mid-century eclectic vibe!
In reimagining this home, we made quite a few structural changes.  Let me walk you through this home!
Entryway
The original plan of the home was such that the main door opened into a wall that enclosed the dining area and we broke that entire L shaped wall down to expose the dining to the long and large living area. We then closed off the entrance to the powder bathroom from the kitchen as in the original plan by building a wall and created access from the dining room instead. This helps it serve as a powder for guests.

The home now opens into a narrow entryway set right next to the dining and partitioned off by a teak wood partition from Phantom Hands. Â To the left of entryway is a small mudroom that accommodates storage, gardening tools, shoes and other items.
The entryway is grounded by a custom marble top console table and a simple table lamp from Boconcept. A set of Melvyn Evan prints sit atop the console.

Dining Room
To the right of the entryway is the open dining area accented by beautiful oak wood floors. We replaced the original marble floors here with hardwood floors to warm up the space and help it standout in a long open area. The dining has beautiful french doors that open into a small balcony. These doors were original to the house that we retained and painted white.
The dining area comprises of a 6 seater dining table from Gulmohar Lane combined with vintage balinese slat back chairs and navy stripe upholstered head chairs also from Gulmohar Lane. The lighting is a beautiful ceiling flush mount in banana fiber from Oorja Lighting.

LoungeÂ
The dining leads into the lounge area that had very low ceilings due to a structural issue and we decided to paint the entire lounge area a beautiful shade of gray for the walls as well as the ceiling. This allowed the space to stand out beautifully!

The lounge is enveloped in tone on tone grey wall to wall cabinetry that houses the clients large collection of books on one side and a TV on the other! Beautiful mid-century style teal velvet upholstered Pierre Jeanneret reproductions grace the lounge and make for a comfortable seat for the couple!

Living Room
As you walk further into the lounge, the massive angled living room with a beautiful view of Ulsoor lake makes its appearance.

The living room is large, filled with natural light and we wanted that and the view to remain the focus! The entire room is painted white and a single wall is accented in a fluted plaster texture. This wall anchors some of the clients beautiful art and is anchored by a custom made black stained 10ft long credenza.

The lighting comprises a Fabula suspension chandelier in a beautiful fluid shape and sharp black arc lamp from Boconcept.
The seating is a wood sofa set that was originally owned by the client now reupholstered and is beautifully complemented by a custom daybed upholstered in a deep forest green fabric that brings in a hint of color in an otherwise monochrome space.

KitchenÂ
On the other side of the home, the entryway leads into the fun retro cottage inspired kitchen.
The kitchen floors are dressed in geometric blue and white tiles from Bharat Floorings and the cabinetry is a crisp shade of blue! All white kalinga stone countertops, oversized custom rattan pendants and custom bar chairs round off the look!
The ceiling beams accentuate the height in this area where we retained the original ceiling. A small coffee bar set next to the island is a great addition.
We even added a beautiful dutch door to access the utility area and add some ventilation to this kitchen!

And that was a crisp walkthrough of the living spaces in this home…I’ll be back here soon with more about the private spaces 🙂
Ciao

Project Reveal – The Industrial Chic Home – Private Spaces
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on July 22, 2021
I hope you have already had a chance to walk through the expansive living areas in this home! We’re ready to reveal the rest of this beautiful home that has the private spaces – Master and guest bedroom and a home theater room.
Master Bedroom
The most private space in this apartment is the master and it’s sexy and striking yet understated and chic at the same time! The walls are fluted three quarters of the way and painted a sharp black with a contrasting white on top. We love how this visually expands the room and adds height!

We added a large comfortable fully upholstered floor bed to soften the edginess of the bold black and white. It creates a plush yet relaxed space. The custom bed sits atop a modern abstract rug in tones of gray, black and green tones and an oversized corner chandelier in black metal and glass hanging above the floor bed makes for a dramatic visual!

We’ve continued the red brick on to the opposite wall and created a distressed plaster wall to hone in on the urban industrial feel. A large emerald velvet upholstered chair sits next to a distressed emerald corner table in the corner.

On the opposite wall we have an oversized mirror and a console that doubles up as Daniela’s vanity.
The master bathroom and walk in are designed in the same palettes of natural wood, glass and metal. The walk in wardrobe has fluted glass and metal shutters for one section while the rest is left open for comfortable usage.

The master bathroom boasts distressed teal tile with hints of copper from floor to ceiling and a recycled wood tile highlights the back of the mirror wall. Using the same tile all through the floor and ceiling makes this bathroom feel so spacious.

Poured concrete countertops and a large sink anchored by a floating wood tone vanity create a modern rustic vibe. We added a set of pendants with planters for a hint of green and gold fixtures.
Home Theater
The home theater was a fun spot for us to design! Daniel and Arun had mentioned that ‘Fight Club’ was one of their favorite movies and the idea of incorporating one of the scenes as a mural set the tone for this space! The mural acts as a beautiful bold backdrop for the tone on tone home theater room.

The walls are lined in deep blue foam, and the projector wall and ceiling retain the concrete finish like rest of the home. Slim wooden slats with inbuilt lighting span the wall and ceiling and make for a beautiful view!
A large oversized sleeper sectional in navy velvet and a bold orange ottoman are the only pieces of furniture along with a bold rug and an arc lamp.

What’s of note here is the custom made 10ft long mesh door media console. Framed with a solid teak wood top and custom mesh doors this console is a one of our many custom designed furniture pieces in the home!
Powder Bathroom
Right outside the home theater and adjoining the dining is the striking black and bold powder room. We added vertical bead boarding all over and accented the top with a bold botanical inspired wallpaper. The fluted bead board is carried through to conceal a linen closet we added here for additional storage.

Guest Bedroom
To the left of the lounge room on the opposite side of the apartment is a guest bedroom. We kept this space simple treating the walls in a beautiful plaster finish and added wall to wall teak veneer wrapped custom wardrobes for additional storage.

A sleek light gray upholstered bed, simple glass and metal bedside tables and modern swing arm sconces create a chic modern space. A bold rug and an upholstered armchair in Daniela’s favorite color turquoise bring in a pop of color.

I hope you enjoyed knowing more about the private spaces in this home. We are so proud of how this home came together and can’t wait to be back here to share more of our ongoing projects with you all!
Until then stay positive, healthy and safe ♥️

Project Reveal Part 1 – The Industrial Chic Home – Living Spaces
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on
This space is home to a young couple Arun and Daniela. Arun a real estate developer and Daniela a business professional met in Spain and this was their first home after their marriage and move to India.
When I first met Arun it was a for less than an hour between my meetings during a visit to Hyderabad for other projects. Subsequently after a few interactions with him and Daniela, I knew they wanted a home that was fun and vibrant with some of the industrial loft like feel to bring a bit of edge to the space.
We wanted the home to have an understated industrial vibe, elements that embodied their love for color and pattern along with a hint of the urban rustic feel!
What’s interesting is right after we met and decided to go forward the pandemic struck and we designed this entire home remotely! And this was one of the most challenging yet fulfilling experiences we’ve had!
In some ways this was a first for us, not so much in it being an outstation project but moreso in the way we designed it! While we were working remotely and with a vision of the space we had gathered in one visit, I also feel this project let us explore design in an uncompromised manner! The result is a home where every space flows into each other, is beautifully detailed and is packed with personality!
Lets start with my favorite space in the home, the entryway and the home office!
Entryway & Home Office
We reimagined the original formal living area to create a home office and sectioned it off creating a slim entryway by adding a metal and black glass partition.

The long slim entryway is anchored by a sharp black metal console. Right above the console is a beautiful gallery wall of art prints handpicked to reflect some of Arun and Daniela’s best memories and a vibrant runner below grounds this area.

To the left of the entryway is the section that we partitioned off to create a beautiful home office for the couple. One of my favorite spots, this home office is dressed in a light airy material palette of concrete, natural wood, glass and metal!

The couple’s workspace was designed as an urban clean industrial inspired space but had to have the warmth of a home office! The walls are treated in a concrete finish and the fluted wood ceiling along with the single piece live edge wood desk create a clean harmonious space.

On the opposite wall, a reading nook is anchored by the classic Ikea Billy shelving unit and a Spanish graffiti art print above.

Living Room
As you walk past the entryway you enter the larger living spaces of this home. On the left is the formal living and entertaining space. Concrete walls, soft muted Mediterranean colors and a beautiful shelving unit suspended from the ceiling that houses the client’s memorabilia greet you!

Anchored by a patterned rug and a custom glass and metal coffee table, the living room is meant to feel open and vibrant. A neutral custom sofa and a olive chairs round off the space.

The wall above the chairs has a beautiful handprinted art piece from Artiques, that goes beautifully with the vibe of the space.
Patio
Adjoining the living room is a beautiful balcony that we lined with beams and continued the concrete finishing on the walls. A simple daybed, pouf and an oversized rattan pendant create a visual of calm!

Dining
On the right side the dining area is the perfect contrast with a sharp industrial vibe set by the red brick wall and a live edge dining table coupled with faux leather chairs.

The large eight seater dining table sits under a rustic wood log pendant with hanging bulbs and makes for a beautiful visual against the brick wall!

A bold distressed turquoise cabinet breaks the living area from the dining.
The open kitchen
The brick wall from the dining wraps into the kitchen and hugs the large open counter anchored by vintage barber stools and antique brass pendants.
A beautiful Swedish folk art print sits on the red brick wall and makes for a bold moment.

The kitchen showcases bold blue and white tile reminiscent of Spanish tiles and deep teal cabinetry.

To the left wall of the kitchen is a red brick lined bar unit with open metal and wood shelves that seamlessly blends in with the kitchen but makes for the perfect entertaining area with the adjoining lounge.

Lounge
The lounge is a simple spot with a large teal velvet sectional and a beautiful vintage wood and brass custom media console.

The area is made cozy with a soft ivory beni ourain inspired rug with hints of color. A large bamboo pendant sits atop the corner of the sectional.

A distressed brass frame mirror picked by Daniela sits behind the couch.
The bathroom adjoining the lounge got converted into a spa like bathroom with the addition of a bathtub and a wood ledge. A simple hanging mirror and a bamboo pendant bring in a beautiful organic vibe.

I can’t wait to share with you all the rest of the private spaces in this home. Until then, thanks for popping by and reading all about this home 🙂

Project Reveal – The Midcentury Eclectic Remodel
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on February 2, 2021
They say design feels effortless when you connect with your client. Couldn’t be truer than in this transformation we did!
Pavitra is an executive director for one of the largest real estate firms, mother to two adorable boys and someone who I met when I had just moved back to India after living in the US. We had a few things in common as moms to young kids, mutual friends and having lived in the States.
When she reached out to me last year to explore a transformation for her larger living spaces, of course I was excited! Our design styles matched instantly…we both shared a love for clean simple lines and the midcentury modern aesthetic. Her only brief was she wanted it to be warm cozy and inviting and at the same time she wanted to reimagine the space entirely!

Palette – Warm neutrals reimagined
The palette for this home was defined by Pavitra’s love for warm colors but at the same time the need to keep the space aesthetic and understated. We reimagined warm colors creating a warm neutral base accented and layered with deep olives, warm rusts, dusty rose and hints of gold! Black and whites form a mainstay in the soft furnishings from the rug to the window treatments and offer balance and contrast.
The furniture – Midcentury aesthetic with an updated feel
The furniture in this home is designed with clean lines and a sharp aesthetic. We loved the classic form of furniture from the midcentury modern era and updated it with hints of cane, brass and raw wood. One of my favorite pieces in the home is a beautiful forged brass console that separates the living and the dining areas effortlessly and the caramel leather sofa.
The cane and white sideboard is another piece that achieves a surprisingly light and airy feel for something so large!
Lighting – Classic shapes that complement Â
The lighting is kept simple and the shapes are classic. The brass and marble table lamp at the entrance has a minimal retro vibe while the tall floor lamp brings in visual height and adds a sleek modern touch.
The dining area is supported by an oversized branch chandelier with large globes. The sculptural form makes for a bold statement against the raw wood table and low cane back chairs.

Art – Eclectic, colorful and classic pieces
The art in this home has been carefully picked by Pavitra in partnership with Artisera. The pieces are soulful and ones that she was drawn to. Beautiful classic pieces that are conversation starters!
Design – Clean, Minimal and Impactful
The space itself was challenging! It was a single long space that had to be multifunctional with each space feeling connected to the other while having its own distinct personality!
And true to our style of creating cohesive free flowing open spaces, we did just that! We broke down all the visual barriers and started by creating one clean open space now unified with a hint of warm grey paint!

The apartment opened directly into the living room with the most beautiful view of quintessential Bangalore green! It only made sense to have a massive picture window. This wasn’t an easy change the apartment being on the 8th floor, but in my opinion one of the single most impactful ones! Ample natural light, a view to kill and add to that a very natural way to define and anchor the living room.

The home opened directly into the living room and this meant that it had no defined entryway. While we wanted to create an entryway solution for the young family, we did not want it to take away from the living room moment. We kept the existing grid frame board and batten wall, painted it a soft gray and added a beautiful custom oversized cane and white cabinet that functions as storage for shoes, bags and entryway essentials. An oversized mirror hung off center visually rests the entryway closer to the main door and brings in a modern casual feel.

To the left of the entryway sits a small bar nook. We added a chair and a rug here to define the space along with beautiful watercolor art by Hiren Patel. The area feels light and casual and seamlessly flows into the living and dining areas.

The living room itself is simple but layered with beautiful accents and details. A classic midcentury leather sofa set against a black and white rug and olive chairs make for the main seating. A beautiful kilim upholstered bench visually divides the living from the entryway and adds a hint of pattern. Flowing linen drapes with a contrasting black border frame the picture window and a forged brass console divides the living from the dining. A stunning black and gold art sits between the living and the dining.

To the right of the living room is the family room and we anchored it with a deep olive wall. In a very long area, it does a great job of pulling in the spaces visually and creating an integrated color story from the living to the family lounge.
This area has a comfortable custom sectional couch and ottoman for TV viewing and family photos framing the wall behind. A beautifully detailed Gurudas Shenoy artwork brings in vibrance and color into this space and makes for a striking view from the living room!

As we walk further into the apartment to the left of the living area is the dining. The dining had an accent wall and a large built in wood cabinet. We added simple textural grass cloth wallpaper to the far end of the dining space to bring depth and texture and carried through the same wallpaper into the back of the built-in cabinets for continuity.

The dining area has a large raw edge wood table and simple cane back chairs with a black leather seat. A large midcentury inspired branch pendant sits atop the dining. On the far end the buffet table sits below an abstract art by Shivani Dugar and adds just the right amount of color.

Adjoining the dining is the beautiful open terrace. Comfortable outdoor seating, large planters and the best view you can ask for make this outdoor space come alive!

I truly love how this home together. Most often we work on new homes, but to work on an existing home which has been lived in and has outgrown the needs of its home owners was a challenge! To reimagine a space in entirety and make those changes come alive has been so fulfilling.

Project Reveal Part III – The Modern French Country Inspired Home – Private Spaces
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on January 22, 2021
We hope you enjoyed the pastel perfect living spaces and kitchen from this home. The private spaces are equally beautiful and carry through that subtle and calm elegance.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom is one of my favorite spaces in this home. It’s neutral in its tones but has beautiful textural elements that make it all come together.
The fluted wood paneled wall behind the bed is a favorite element. Its a refreshing updated take on shiplap and brings in so much texture and character to the space. We painted it a few coats of white but left the wood grains peeking through which bring in warmth and dimension.

The wall is anchored by a linen upholstered classic carved French country bed and bedside tables. We used larger bedside tables here and also added a beautiful striped bench to the foot of the bed. The deceptively sleek bench packs in storage for all the bed linen and is such a functional piece!

Opposite the bed we added a beautiful cane and white sideboard for additional storage. We painted the wall a dark charcoal and added beautiful black and white framed photographs that are minimal yet impactful!

To the right of the master we converted a bathroom into a walk in closet for Pallavi and added a simple grey painted closet in the master for Tarun. The walk in closet in tones of walnut and white has ample storage and a vanity.

We carried the beautiful wood fluting into the master bathroom and added a wall to wall mirror with pendants to update the builder grade bathroom

Guest Bedroom
This guest bedroom was a simple room where we kept the clients existing bed and added wardrobes and a chair. But we can’t miss that beautiful moulding and the perfect blush tone we used for the walls!

We added simple cotton floral bed linen and brass globe pendants to complete the space.

Library
This room is such a bold departure from the rest of the home and is enveloped in tones of deep teal. We knew this was a smaller room and both Pallavi and Tarun wanted the space to be a refuge and something that was set apart. They both loved reading and we imagined the space bathed in deep color and wall to wall cabinetry to bring in that dark moody library feel.

We painted the entire space ceiling included in a deep teal, added beautiful millwork across the length of the entire wall and used glass doors for the upper cabinetry to lighten the feel.

A simple brass and glass chandelier and ladder tie in the space. We painted the window frames a sharp black and added linen blinds.

In the corner a set of large wingback club chairs upholstered in deep navy and rust tones are anchored by an abstract modern rug. On the opposite end we added a large wood desk and a vintage world map print behind the desk nook.

I absolutely love this space and how it came together!
And that’s a wrap people on this beautiful home! I hope you enjoyed reading all about it!

Project Reveal Part II – The Modern French Country Inspired Home – Kitchen
Created by Vinithra Amarnathan on January 18, 2021
Welcome to all about the French country inspired kitchen! The pocket doors with fluted glass on top and brass sliding handles open into this pretty pastel kitchen.

The kitchen in this home was centered around the light pastel aesthetic our clients were loving. We carried through the color palette from the living areas and worked with a tile that was a classic pattern reminiscent of European floral tiles but in a pastel palette of soft blush pinks, mint green and greys.

We painted the cabinets a beautiful shade of soft mint and the countertops are beige quartz. This kitchen is again a galley kitchen and to maximize function on one side we added drawers throughout along with slim under counter pullouts for spice racks and bottles.
On the opposite side we have the tall pantry unit and more storage via corner units and bottom shelves.

The sink is a small quartz sink while the utility houses a larger sink. Simple white ceramic knobs on top and long lean brass handles below add visual length and contrast. We added classic glass bell pendants in black which also elongate the kitchen.
Do I miss a long runner in this kitchen?? Heck yeah! But our clients weren’t too keen on rugs in the home because of a pet and a toddler!

I love how we worked a pastel palette into this kitchen without making it feel too cutesy! It has a relaxed yet grown up feel which I absolutely love 🙂
